MINNEAPOLIS – The University of Minnesota Physicians (M Physicians) Board of Directors has named Greg Beilman, MD, as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for M Physicians, the clinical practice of the University of Minnesota Medical School.
Dr. Beilman has served as M Physicians’ Interim CEO since July 2025.
“Over 30 years as a faculty member, surgeon, researcher and clinical leader, Dr. Beilman has been a steadfast servant-leader for the University of Minnesota Medical School and Minnesota’s patients,” said Rahel Ghebre, MD, MPH, Vice Chair of the M Physicians Board of Directors. “He has worked tirelessly to build the future of care for Minnesota with the University of Minnesota and our partners, and he is an impactful leader to move us into our next chapter.”
Under Dr. Beilman’s leadership, M Physicians announced a new 10-year clinical partnership with Fairview Health Services in November 2025. The “Strategic Partnership for Minnesota’s Healthcare Future” secures patients’ access to University doctors in Fairview hospitals and clinics, and it sustains future funding for the University of Minnesota Medical School, the majority of which is provided by M Physicians. The partnership also includes a minimum of $50 million in mission support from Fairview for the Medical School and $1 billion in new investments for University of Minnesota Medical Center.
M Physicians, the University of Minnesota and Fairview reaffirmed these commitments in January as part of an additional agreement that also designates M Physicians as the sole, premier clinical practice for the University of Minnesota Medical School.
“Minnesota is my home, and it is a great honor to continue working with the talented teams in our practice to lead this important work for our community,” Dr. Beilman said. “I am excited for what we will do, together, for our neighbors across our state and the Upper Midwest.”
A critical care and trauma surgeon by training, Dr. Beilman completed medical school and residency at the University of Kansas School of Medicine in Wichita before completing his fellowship in surgical critical care at the University of Minnesota.
Dr. Beilman is a retired Colonel in the United States Army Reserves. He led trauma care for service members and others during deployments to Kosovo, Iraq and Afghanistan before retiring in 2014.
In 2020, as co-lead of the M Health Fairview COVID-19 Command Center and the health system’s Senior Vice President for Acute Operations, Dr. Beilman worked across M Physicians, the Medical School and Fairview to open and operate Minnesota’s dedicated COVID-19 hospital. The hospital’s care teams ensured that Minnesota’s patients received some of the best COVID-19 outcomes in the nation.
Prior to being named M Physicians’ Interim CEO in 2025, Dr. Beilman served as Associate Dean of Department of Defense Research and Partnerships at the University of Minnesota Medical School in addition to founding the University of Minnesota Translational Center for Resuscitative and Trauma Care (TCRTC). Among Dr. Beilman’s key efforts was launching the Medical School’s Military Medic to Medical School program, which provides a pathway to medical education and training for medics in the U.S. Armed Forces.
“There is much we will do for Minnesota’s patients, both in our own clinics and with the 47 health system and clinical partners we work with across the region,” Dr. Beilman said. “I am excited for what lies ahead.”
