The University of Minnesota Physicians (M Physicians) Board of Directors has elected Gregory Beilman, MD, as Interim CEO for M Physicians and the University of Minnesota has appointed  him Interim Vice President for Clinical Operations.  Both appointments are effective July 1, 2025.

Dr. Beilman will lead M Physicians and serve the University through a transformational period, as the University and its partners develop a more fully integrated academic health system to best meet the healthcare needs of all Minnesotans, and tighter alignment of the physician practice, medical school and University.


Dr. Beilman’s reporting relationship reflects the University’s strong commitment to sustain and grow its healthcare commitment to Minnesota, the nation and world and to ensure both the clinical and academic enterprises are properly coordinated and well represented within the University.  Both Dr. Beilman and Medical School Dean and University Vice President for Clinical Affairs Jakub Tolar will serve on the President’s Cabinet. 


Trained as a critical care and trauma surgeon, Dr. Beilman is a widely respected clinician who’s served in various leadership roles within M Physicians and the University of Minnesota Medical School over more than 30 years. Until 2014, Dr. Beilman also served as a Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserves, where he cared for injured members of the military deployed to Eastern Europe and the Middle East.

Dr. Beilman's military background equipped him with a deep sense of resourcefulness and adaptability, qualities that shaped his approach to medicine and leadership. As Co-Lead for the M Health Fairview COVID-19 Command Center and Senior Vice President for Acute Care at University of Minnesota Medical Center, Dr. Beilman guided the hospital through the most challenging stages of the pandemic, ensuring patients could get the care they need while supporting those who provided it.

Since 2022, Dr. Beilman has served the University of Minnesota Medical School as Associate Dean of Department of Defense Research and Partnerships, advancing the school’s research mission and expanding its national impact.

Dr. Beilman has also driven service Minnesota as the founding director of the University of Minnesota Translational Center for Resuscitative and Trauma Care (TCRTC), where he’s led the center’s development and evaluation of innovative acute trauma care practices in low resource, rural, and emergency care settings.
